Service Technician

Morrison’s Power Equipment is seeking a candidate to fill a vacant Service Technician position. The job opening is a full-time/year-round position.

Job perks: Each Tech has their own workspace here in the service department that include a hydraulic equipment lift, work bench with space for tool chest, compressed air, engine exhaust evacuation system. Each Tech has their own dedication computer for repair order wright up and parts lookup. The shop has shared specialty tools and supplies like, pneumatic grease gun, diagnostic tablet, fuel injection diagnostic kits, welder, sanders ect.  Additionally, the entire building is Air Conditioned including the shop.

Primary Responsibilities

The position is located the service department which is a dedicated space in our building.  The primary responsibility is to diagnose and repair various types of small engine equipment. To complete this, you will be required to:

  • Diagnose: Each repair the counter staff has already written up with a brief description of work to be performed but you are expected to verify customer concern as well as assess for other issues with equipment
  • Looking up parts – You will be looking up the parts to complete your repairs. The parts department staff will pull the parts most of the time for you. .

Additional responsibilities include driving equipment in and out of the building, washing equipment, contribute to the cleanliness of the shop, pulling parts for you repair if the parts staff are unavailable.

Job Requirements

  • Friendly attitude - The position isn’t typically customer facing but you may have to call a customer to clarify or get more detailed information on a repair. When a customer calls to check on their repairs the counter staff will assist them first, if work becomes technical you may be asked to speak with the customer.
  • General computer literacy  - Must be able to navigate many different manufactures websites.  We use a Program called INFINITY which you will be trained in. Prior knowledge of the program is a plus. All shop manuals and IPLs are digital now.
  • The ability to lift 50lb - Not a lot of heavy lifting is required but sometimes dead piece of equipment will require pushing/pulling to get onto a lift.
  • Ability to work Saturdays/ flexible schedule - You will have a set five day schedule, one day will be Saturday. We are closed Sunday so you would be required to work four other days during the week.  Some days you may have to stay 15 minutes or so late if a customer walks in right before we close, which you will be paid for. We are flexible with our employees allowing them to switch days, leave early, come in late, take time when necessary with the expectation that courtesy is reciprocated when we need extra hours.
  • 4 Stroke Engine theory- 99% of equipment you will be servicing will be 4- Stroke gasoline engines. Diesel and 2-Cycle experience a plus but not required.
  • Basic electrical theory and diagnostic – Most small engines are carbureted but EFI systems are becoming more common.  You will be trained on specific diagnostics but must know the basics uses of a multimeter/power probe.
  • Outdoor power equipment experience is not necessary but comparable industry experience is a must and must have full set of tools.
